The Universe of Wild Spaces
It is 7000 years into out future. The Human species has spread across the entire Milky Way galaxy. But mankind is not alone, an array of creatures crafted in the genetics labs of old earth had been sent out into the blackness in order to carve a foothold for humanity so the humans didn't have to, but the cosmic conquest was delayed, humanity was late, and their would-be servants became civilisations of their own.
Arrangements and agreements between the expanding human race and these long lost species gave rise to the Galactic Union, a government that desired nothing less than the unity of all species, but conflict is hard to avoid when the creatures of the Galactic Union are as varied as they are. For centuries the council of the Galactic Union was bogged down in petty squabbles, until a calamitous event pulled all together in a desperate fight to survive.
Know as the Forgotten War, the conflict lasted for nearly five centuries, entire planets where obliterated and countless lives lost. Any further information beyond that had been completly obliterated by the conclusion of the war, the activation of an ontological weapon known as the Black Gate. The weapons overwhelming destructive capacity of the Black Gate wiped not just the enemies of the Galactic Union in their present, but their entire history and all information relating to them. The enemy exists now as a hole in existance, a posibility that never came true but still destroyed so much.
After the Forgotten War, the remaining goverments of the Galaxy struggled to reconcile its paradoxical victory. Rebuilding was hard and the seeds of distrust where sewn, without direct evidence of an actuall agressor the various factions began to wonder if instead it was a memeber of the union that was responsible for the destruction, and the Black Gates simply made the rest of the galaxy forget their crime. As paranoia started to grow, the Union began to fragment and fray at the edges, simple bickering from before the war turned to hostilies, small skermishes breaking out across boarders.
